The "eye issue"

 Went to the eye clinic again yesterday.Came away feeling better! 

Dr McClure from Retina Consultants came down and spent quite a long time with me. I got a lot of good information from him on exctly what is going on with both eyes

What it boils down to is partially genetic  and 72 years of life!

The blood vessels that are under the retina are just, basically, getting kind of "brittle", cracking a bit and allowing that blood to seep out under the retina. Which in turn is raising the retina up from the back of the eye. He was surprised at just how fast it had occured, but this has been known to happen this quickly.

For me, the good news was/is that "I am fixable!"  LOL! It will require surgery and some recovery. It is "Day Surgery". They will go into the eye, remove the blood that has entered behind the retina, make sure it is back in place as it should be. What all is entailed with this I honestly do not know.  But my main take-away is....I'm fixable!!

Now back to daily life, and my cabin!

As you can see I'm making progress with the inside of the cabin. I'm really happy with the bed! Was not very expensive and I have not slept on a "real" bed in quite a few years. And mattresses have come a LONG WAY in the past decade or so! It is an 8" mattress that is heavenly!! And as you can see it meets Rosie requirements.  

 

It was very easy to set up and so comfortable. I still get tickled at how they are packaged. The mattress is in a plastic bag, which is what they use to suck ALL the air out of the thing! Itis  then roll in about 5 layers of plastic sheet so it will stay rolled up apparently. Then it goes into a box that fits like a glove around it. 

 I have decided to just paint the floor later and use an area rug and some small runners and doormats. It is just what makes sense. Have you looked lately at the cost of wood flooring?? It has gotten stupid expensive! I'm starting to look at our poor old barn that a storm took down a couple of years ago and think..."hmmm...those boards would make a nice wall, and the roofing could be..."!!  Time will tell how my cabin and tiny mini-homestead will turn out!!

And my little 5K air conditioner is  worth it's weight in gold! The heat index here for the past 2+ weeks has been averaging between 98-107 degrees. It has been just HOT daily, and night temps have not dropped below 73* but 1 time.

So this pretty well brings you up to date with the TwF Settling Down saga. It is all coming together quite well. The rest of the outside work will be done in stages...as it hopefully cools down some. Still working on caulking, hope to get roof painted in next week or so. And...still have my 10x10 outdoor screen room to get up...as soon as I can clear rhe spot out for it!!  LOL!

I know I've been saying something about being "prepared" and I really hope you have been listening and may have taken a few steps towards being prepared for whatever might try to interrupt our daily lives. If not mess up life in general. The groups that track where oil oil supply is, both public and gov't group,s are starting, finally to sound the warning. Our stockpile is very close to "tank bottom", which means...we're out of fuel, the refineries can't make gas without oil...so are you ready for a very possible  change of lifestyle??  I hope so.

Hi from rather WARM Alabama!!

Hi from a quite warm Alabama. It has been pretty warm for the  past several weeks. The daily temps have been low to mid 90's. Which is not all that bad until you figure in the humidity here. This is why I have never gotten it used to summers here after several years out West. West Texas, New Mexico...even 3 years in Alaska, all those areas are low humidity compared to here. So humidity figured in, the "feels like" (Heat Index) for us it has been averaging 100-105 degrees for the past coule of weeks.

Enough about the weather! A bit of news about the cabin. It is built and I'm slowly making progress on the things necessary to be able to move in. Have gotten a little caulking done. If the rains allow, tomorrow should be able to get one window installed and the air conditioner mounted. 

 If we do succeed in getting the a/c setup....I'm just liable to put my camp chair with stool in there, throw Rosie's bed on the floor....and sleep in there. Give it a test drive!!  LOL!

The main thing I accomplished today was to get the "screen door" installed. Don't remember if I mentioned that I am not putting in a "normal" front door right now. Main reasons...pennies getting tight and try to find a 5' front door! LOL! So the left sliding door is blocked off and will use the right door for the time being. 

 Once I figured out where to mount it (you can tell from the black gorilla tape) it took me a while to decide the way to mount it. Because it is not a normal door frame to work with, two handles that stick out somewhat, it was a rather trial and error process to get the sreen halves to come together and match up and hook up to almost totally correctly.

Once I got that figured out I then had to decide where to cut the bottom off. The door height is 50", the screen height is about 70". And I am not too proud to tell you that if I put 2 dots on a sheet of paper, draw a straigt line with a ruler between them....I will still not cut a straight line!! Soooo the cut is not pretty but it hits right except for one spot, but still goes to the threshold and closes the space very well. The screen was just $9, so in a few months, if needed, I'll get another. But this time I'll know exactly how long to cut it!

 This pretty well brings the situation here up to date. So keep thinking good thoughts that we'll be able to get the window and a/c unit installed tomorrow. I will be a very happy camper if that does come to fruition!!

Make sure you stay in a preparedness state of mind for the coming days, weeks, months. I hope we get thru all the global issues that are brewing all around the globe without getting hammered with any not so good things. But just in case, keep your vehicle toppd off, put back supplies to take care of the family if things do go sideways and we're not able to run to the store when we want or when we do go, the shelves could be sparce. Just stay prepared!
